Our Story
Saw. Felt. Action.
We SAW a need FELT compassion took ACTION
In 2003 a home bible study group from Community Church, St. Simons Island met for our weekly meeting led by Vicki & Frazier Green. Vicki shared about attending her Aunt Lucille’s funeral with her mother is Bluefield, Nicaragua. Her mother’s heart was devastated by the poverty that she witnessed and the extremely high unemployment rate.
Vicki’s Aunt Lucille’s death was devastating to many, but especially for the five Cruz children, she was caring for at the time. She was lovingly known as “Grannie” by the children. Grannie was caring for the Cruz children so that their mother could work out of the country on a Cruise ship. Being separated from her children sometimes nine months of the year was a sacrifice she was willing to make to support her family.

The Bible Study group wanted to do more than send money. So, in July of 2004, the group traveled to Bluefields with the support of Community Church St. Simons. The mission team partnered with St. Marks Anglican Church and Fr. Stanford Cash to provide Bible-based workshops, Vacation Bible School (VBS), as well as, encouragement and love to the Cruz children and the entire Bluefields community.

The unexpected chain of events that followed the death of Vicki’s Aunt Lucille led to an outpouring of love, support, and service. This collaborative effort has included communities of Brunswick, St. Simons Island, and Calvary Baptist Temple of Savannah, GA. Over the past 16 years, numerous mission teams have traveled to Bluefields to spread the grace and love of Jesus. These efforts with the motivation and leadership of Love Davis led to the formation of Gift of Love Ministries, Inc.

The Gift of Love Ministries (GOLM) partners with a graduate of the program Professor Jerry Berry and a local church to help continue the work in Bluefields ensuring that the student's school fees and tuition are being paid properly.

In addition, the GOLM continues to send mission teams to Bluefields to serve and love on the students and their families. A mission Team is being planned for 2021.
